Change the wind. See what changes.

The Lab is where a plan is tested rather than admired. Swing the wind through ninety degrees, run the stream a knot harder, put the gust in at the wrong moment — and sail the same approach again. Two attempts sit side by side, and the difference between them is the lesson.

What you can varyAnd what it costs you

01WindDirection and strength, steady or gusting. The one that decides whether she sets down onto the berth or blows off it.
02CurrentA knot along the quay changes every angle, and it is the force most often forgotten in the plan.
03The approachMore way, less way, a wider angle, the other side of the fairway. Try the one you would not risk on the water.
04The boatThe same berth in a heavier boat, or one that walks to port in reverse. Charter week, planned.

The approach view
The approach — distance to the berth, closing speed, and where she has to stop.
  • Ten seconds of prediction: where she will be at the helm and throttle you are holding now.
  • Every run is repeatable — the same dice for every attempt, so a comparison means something.
  • Nothing is scored by the clock. The rules are seamanship: no touch, ropes in order, a hand ashore before the way is off.
